Review: The Culling Trials 2

The Culling Trials 2 The Culling Trials 2 by K.F. Breene
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Mulan meets The Hunger Games meets Harry Potter (or The Magicians considering the characters ages)

Read the whole thing in a single sitting!
Never a dull moment with this series. We get constant action with a bit of a mystery thrown in.
I LOVE the direction this instalment is going.

Review: Kill the Queen

Kill the Queen Kill the Queen by Jennifer Estep
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I would have given this 5 stars if not for some stuff in the 2nd part that annoyed the shit out of me. Evie insists on not communicating with her new allies in case she can't trust them, which is fair enough, but it's blaringly obvious that she can!! I know why it was done and it was neccessary for her character to develope, strenghten and gain confidence but I wish she could have done all that without having to keep secrets. It's just such an annoying way to have tension and conflict in the story.

Other than that, I freaking loved this! The first and third parts had a Game of Thrones feel to them with lots of political intrigue and action.

Review: Athena's Choice

Athena's Choice Athena's Choice by Adam Boostrom
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

description

There is a lot of potential in this story but it doesn’t quite reach it. It’s burdened by tedious chunks of world building and very slow pacing. The premise is so intriguing and there are many moments throughout the book that grab your attention but they are short lived. The characters are also a bit flat with little personality.

My favourite thing about this book is the cover. I think it’s so pretty but it doesn’t do a good job at portraying what this book is about.
